As Christmas is fast approaching (I can’t believe how quick the year has flown by) I thought I would put together some Fitness and Health related gift ideas.  Here is a list of what I think make for the best Christmas gifts

1 – Paleo Happy Hour ($38.99)

paleo qq
A great book for Christmas. In this book author Kelly Milton shows you how to stay on track with your health and fitness goals but not be boring with ” I can’t eat that ”  or ” I am on a diet”  Recipes included range from Jalapeño Bacon Poppers all the way through to Cookie Dough Bonbons. And the best bit, there is over 20 paleo friendly cocktails 🙂

2 – Suspension Trainer ($129.95)

If you’re thinking about getting some fitness equipment for this Christmas then I would highly suggest you get a suspension system. There are literally hundreds of exercises that you can do targeting different muscles in your body simply using your own bodyweight. It’s also fantastic if you travel as its light weight and can be hooked up to any door or tree easily

6 – Foam Roller ($39 – $69)

the grid

So if you have been dealing with an injury, ache or pain then the odds are you have some knotty tissue along with adhesion in your muscles. A foam roller is an awesome tool to restore and balance muscle tissue. Here is an analogy I like to use ‘Your muscle is like an elastic band, when you get knots in the elastic band and you try to stretch them what happens? Yep the knot just gets tighter and denser. You have to break the knot down. You can pay a massage therapist a lot of money to do this or you can buy a foam roller

7 – Stainless Steal Water Bottle ($18)

eko

The ECOtanka Sports Tanka holds up to 800ml of water and is made from solid stainless steel. They are ultra light and best of all they are ecologically friendly and NOT Plastic!

gar

The Garmin FR70 womans fitness watch will help you stay motivated with your new year resolution fitness goals. It tracks your time, heart rate and calories burned. It can also be paired up with a foot pod and accurately measure distance and speed of your run

9 – Omniblend V 1.5 BPA free Blender ($389)

omni

A professional grade high-powered blender that is BPA free. You can make smoothies, soups, sauces, nut butter and even ice cream 🙂 It also costs significantly less than other blenders with similar specifications. On top of all of this Krystie tells me its awesome

10 – Ipod Nano 16gb ($229)

nano

The iPod nano is the fantastic workout partner. It gives you some much-needed musical motivation and provides real-time feedback. Since Nike+ support and pedometer are built into iPod nano you can track your steps, distance, pace, time and calories burned.

11 – Bio Health 205  – ($194 for the test plus $70 for interpretation and protocols)

Functional wellness

This is by far the most comprehensive health analysis for the price. You get a clear picture of how your adrenal glands (are you coping with stress) are functioning as well as exactly how well your DHEA, Estrogen, Progesterone, Testosterone and Melatonin hormones are functioning. If you’re not testing then you’re guessing

12 – Phillips Wake Up Light ($99)

wake up

Do you feel like you have been hit by a train when you wake up in the morning? If so then I would highly recommend the Phillips Wake Up Light. It gradually increases the light for 30 minutes before waking, making for a more energetic start to the day. I used one of these in a hotel I stayed in, in Christchurch a while back and I have to say I truly thought it was amazing.

13 – Nike + Fuel Band ($299)

nike

This clever little band tracks exactly how much you move, steps taken and calories burned. The great thing about the Nike + fuel band is that it tracks everyone the same way, so if you’re the competitive type then this can be a lot of fun. It also has a red to green LED display that lets you know how your progressing with your goals

14 – Womens Nike Free Flyknit+ ($220)

nike free

Nike Free Flyknit + running shoe is incredibly light but very durable. Nike Free’s are a great choice for runners as they have a minimal sole meaning less support. Know you may be thinking why would I want less support? Let me explain – The more support your trainer gives you the less your feet have to work at making their own support. This leads to lazy feet and often injuries. By taking away some of the trainers supports you rely on your own foot for support leading to stronger feet and less injures. Personally I think the Nike Free’s are a perfect transitioning shoe into a more minimal shoe.

15 –  Lillipad Squat Toilet ($147)

squat toilet

I think everyone should have one of these. Infants instinctively squat to poop, as do the majority of the world’s population. So why do we do it differently. The conventional toilet puts way to much strain on your colon which can lead to a number of problems. If you don’t want to spend $147 on a toilet frame then I advise you to make your own.

16 – Icebreaker (under $150)

ice

Merino wool is amazing. I am a big fan of Icebreaker as a brand. They not only look after their customers but also committed to looking after their animals and the environment. Even better, you can throw the bar code into their system and find out where your wool comes from (I think that’s cool)

17 – Camelbak Classic 2l ($75)

cam

A really great fitting camelbak ideal for running, biking, hiking or any other outdoor activities. Its small enough to not weigh you down but packs a good 2 litres of water

18 – The 6 Pack Bag ($107.10)

bag

It’s not just a bag. the 6 pack bag is a meal management system. As you know getting fitness results is all about eating right, and eating right is all about preparation. This bag allows you to carry around all your meals plus shaker, snacks and much much more

19 – The Jawbone Up Fitness Wristband Tracker ($204.99)

jaw

You wear the Jawbone Up on your wrist and it monitors your movement, sleep and helps you log what your eating with a clever food diary. I think it also look rather stylish too

20 – Weleda Pomegranate Gift Pack ($29.90)

wel

All natural, organic and it smells lovely (Krystie tells me). An enriching duo of Pomegranate Creamy Body Wash 200ml and Pomegranate Regenerating Hand Cream 50ml.
