Happy Monday Everyone,

Hope you all had a great weekend. We kicked off the weekend with celebrating a friends birthday on Friday evening! It was a great night, however a little sleep deprived – not use to late nights anymore 🙂

I braved the water on Saturday and went surfing (the water was actually not too cold). It was so lovely being back out in the Ocean – one of my favourite places.

A family bike ride finished the weekend off – we wrapped up and set off for an adventure then came home and had a warming Oxtail stew for dinner to warm our insides.

Never looks that appealing in photo – but was actually really delicious!

So today I wanted to speak to you about a topic that is near and dear to me. Organics and health.  I was listening to a podcast last week and they mentioned that only 4-6% of the worlds food was organic – leaving the rest non-organic and sprayed with pesticides, fungicides and herbicides.

I believe that our current health care system is more of a sick care system. We spend more time cleaning up the mess rather than putting preventative measures in place.  Wouldn’t it be great if we could all make small changes to our nutrition, what we put in our mouths. Choosing organics over sprayed vegetables and fruit. Choosing free range, grass fed and finished animals. Choosing real food over packet processed foods.

We have many obese people in this world starving for nutrient dense foods.

Some might say, organic is more expensive. Yes in some cases it is, but mostly because people are voting with their dollar and keep supporting the guys who are slowly killing us off. The more we support the guys who are doing a great job, the more reasonable the produce will be as this will become mainstream.

There are some great places doing organics in Hawkes Bay. If you could all start with just one change and make a small difference, this would be a big step in the right direction. Head to the Farmers Market on Saturday in Napier you have JJ Organics with their vegetables, Sunday Market you have Epicurean. Cornucopia in Hastings and Chantels in Napier. The Clive Organic Butcher along with The Organic Butchery in Hastings. Hapi cafe in Napier are all doing a great job with providing nutrient dense foods. I am sure I have forgotten to list some so please add.

Let’s be the change we want to see. What one small step will you do this week to move in the right direction?
