Why is it that some people can get in great shape and some can’t? In this article I have outlined seven highly effective habits of the lean and toned.

1. They never miss a workout because they’re feeling too tired.

They don’t make excuses. They just turn up. We all have moments when we cannot be bothered to go and workout. Maybe you had a crap day at work and all you want to do is sit on the sofa and watch a movie while eating your favourite ice cream or maybe you had a late night and you don’t want to get up when the alarm goes off for your early morning workout class. The difference between people who succeed and people who fail to achieve their goals is the ones that want to succeed don’t let their weak will power win. They get to the gym for a workout no matter what. They are dedicated to their goals because they know that achieving their goal will be an incredible feeling.

 2. They don’t buy junk food.

Because they know that if it is in your house at some point it will be eaten. They don’t put temptation in their way. They eat before they go to the supermarket and they avoid the isles with nothing but processed junk food. They will shop around the outer isles of the supermarket where they find fresh vegetables and meats.

3. They push themselves to the very limit.

When they are working out they know that the way to make the biggest success is to be pushing harder than everyone else. They get comfortable becoming uncomfortable; they push to the point where they have nothing left in the tank.  They give every workout 100% and then some. There is nothing superhuman about these individuals they just know that giving all you have is what makes you stronger, more powerful, faster and leaner.

4. They prepare in advance.

They don’t go through life in a haphazard type of way. They are organised, they know exactly what they’re going to eat and when they are going to eat. They know what time they are going to train and what they’re going to do in their training session. They plan everything in advance.

5. They set goals and know exactly what they want to achieve.

For every training program they do they set out exactly what it is that they want to achieve. They don’t say I want to get fitter and lose some weight because that’s just not specific. They say I want to lose 4 kg in 4 weeks and take my 200 meter time down to 26 seconds. Not only will they set outcome goals they will also set process goals. They will take the time to think about everything they need to do in order to achieve their goals.

6. They are active even on rest days.

They enjoy being fit, healthy, lean and toned and they seek out activities that are physical. I don’t mean they go to the gym for another workout, what I mean is they spend their rest days windsurfing, paddle boarding, hiking or going for a country bike ride.

7. They continuously learn and try and improve themselves.

They see fitness and fat loss as a journey and not a destination. They don’t think well I am lean and toned now so I can just stop. They know the only way they will stay in shape is by continuous progression. They spend time on their own health and fitness education. They search out inspiration to keep them moving forward.
