Vegan, Paleo, Raw…. Which One Is The Best To Follow?

Happy Monday, how was your weekend? Wasn’t the weather amazing on Saturday, truly felt like Summer was on its way.

  Nutrition is a big part of what we do, and over the years, different trends have come and gone, and one of the most common questions we get, is “what is the best diet to follow?” So this lead me to writing the below post.

 

“Methods are many, principles are few, methods come and go but principles never do’’

  I have no idea who said this, but it’s a pretty valuable quote. We live in a world of methods. There are so many methods in the health space and too many of us get caught up in the methods. Probably because the methods are pushed on us left right and center.

  The thing is once you get past the ‘buy my method’ you actually get to the principles. In today’s post I am going to highlight some of the methods and principles in the nutrition space.

  Here is a list of methods…

 
  • Paleo
  • Keto
  • Primal
  • Vegan
  • Vegetarian
  • Raw
  • Elimination
  • Carnivore
  • Low carb
  • Juicing
  • Etc, etc

  Now I am sure you know someone who has done or does one or more of these diets successfully. That said you might well be confused. Should I be spooning butter into my mouth? Will eating meat cause cancer?

  The whole world of nutrition is SO contradictory and because of this many are left confused and frustrated.

 

How do you navigate this highly confusing world of nutrition?

  You need to get to the principles - that is the foundations of the system. And the way you get to the foundations is simply by looking at the commonalities between these methods. Here is a list of the principles within the methods  
  •  - Mindful eating
  No one is putting junk food into their mouths  
  •  - Blood sugar levels that are stable
  No one is doing the high sugar diet  
  •  - Emphasis is on veggies*
  Yes even the keto fans will tell you that you gotta eat your greens  
  •  - The love of good fats
  Put your hands up if you want an avocado...That’s all of you then 🙂  
  •  - Some protein  
  Whether you’re getting your protein from beef, nuts, seeds or quinoa - everyone agrees that we need to be getting some  
  •  - Water, water, water  
  Just drink some good water, enough said.

  * The carnivore diet is an exception but it does follow all the other principles

I am not against any of these methods, in fact I personally follow a couple of these but I am not so single minded to think ‘this way is the only way’  Yes that is a completely vanilla statement but it’s the truth. By following these simple principles, whatever method you choose, you are on to a good thing.
